I can't get png's with transparent backgrounds to appear transparent on the page.
I don't think I missed anything and I don't want to downgrade to an earlier Firefox to test it.

I find in Windows that if I try to load Minefield (Firefox 3.1b2pre) into my system both FD 2.11 and 2.14 are deemed incompatable.
I am suprised your 2.11 version is running at all.
Is your FD Version from AMO ?

I don't want to downgrade to an earlier Firefox to test it.

On the AMO site regarding v2.11 it does state:
Firefox: 3.0 – 3.1b1pre

You do not mention if you have changed Firefox Version.

Apart from that:

The important setting is the background setting for thumbnail (and active thumbnail) in Preferences.

Please go that setting and carefully remove your present setting, which should be the word transparent, and try re-entering the word again.
Sometimes small errors can occur.
Close preferences and refresh the cell.

If this does not work it sometimes happens that a Style in Stylish can overide the colour settings set in Fast Dial.
So try disabling Stylish while you refresh the cell.

Oh and are absolutely sure that your logos are transparent ?
Please try downloading a transparent logo from this site to confirm.

Yes the problem you are referring to, was related to the limitations of Firefox 2.

I was able to get my work computer to work properly, by some combination of resetting the options/installing Stylish/uninstalling Stylish/etc. I'm not sure how I did it but I did.
I am now trying to do the same on my home computer. No luck but I won't give up; it's awesome when it's working!

Seems you are making headway.
This problem you are experiencing has a limited number of causes, that just need to be carefully examined.
Test, test and test.

Stylish is very important.
I have a Style that I run all time, that happens to colour transparent logos when they are first loaded, if it is enabled.
Once the Logo is loaded as transparent then I can enable the style without problem as long as the cell is not refreshed
(Should try and fix the Style)

Let us hope soon that awesomeness rules.
