Could you try the following: modify line 178 or so of file /chrome/content/thumbnail/properties.xul, to add sizeToContent() method call:

cancel.setAttribute("label", FdBundle.getString("cancel"));
sizeToContent();
}
if (!properties.id) {
var general = dialog.preferencePanes[0];

Unfortunately I can only use the Mac from 1:15-2:20 PST, and even then, this should work for normal users (not us people that can open just about any file and modify it).
