Good post Mafi0z,thanks.
Yes it would seem that maybe Firefox 2.0 does not support rgba(0,0,0,0)
There is a good browser test here
This is the result for Firefox 2.0

It was very revealing and made me aware of a misinterpretation I had made.(see new picture)
Yes rgba(0,0,0,0) is transparent.
The last integer sets the level of transparency.
The following may interest you.
This is a file that can be loaded into Stylish.
With it you can alter the transparency of all the cells in Fast Dial.
Opacity settings go from 0 to 1.
0 (zero) being transparent and 1 being opaque.
Also you can vary the transparency of dialling cells and group cells seperately.
The settings in the particular file here will make all Group cells entirely transparent and dialling cells partially transparent.
I have uploaded this Style to Userstyles and it is available for download here
Works with Fast Dial Ver 1.x
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url("about:blank") {
}
/*-----for dialling cells-----*/
.image
{
opacity: 0.7;
}
/*-----for cells with group-----*/
.parent
{
opacity: 0.0;
}

Submitted by ZedoMann on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 22:51Just get Firefox 3 and forget FF2.

If I make a request for logos, make it on a transparent background.

But Tab Effect does not work on Firefox 3. :-)

If you download the .xpi and extract it as if were .zip file, then edit the install.rdf to support firefox 3, then drag it into firefox 3, it will work =]
If you'd like i can email you the version which works with firefox 3, as i have done the above steps..
But either way - i will keep looking for a workaround for transparent fastdial in firefox 2.

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Wed, 07/02/2008 - 18:41Regarding your kind offer, yes I would very much appreciate a copy of your Firefox 3 Version. Thank you.
I enjoyed very much the following comment at Tab Effect :
"This is the only thing stopping me from using Firefox 3... I don't think I could live without it!"
Regarding Transparent in Fast Dial, it would seem that, if in the Properties/Custom Image/Background setting, the value Transparent is entered, then Fast Dial/Canvas needs the string rgba(0,0,0,0) in order to function correctly.
The code for this is visible in fd.js in Fast Dial Version 1.90.
This works fine in Firefox 3 but not in Firefox 2
doc.body.style.background = pageInfo.customBackground == "transparent"
? "rgba(0,0,0,0)" : pageInfo.customBackground;
doc.body.style.margin = 0;
