BUG: incorrect formatting of email
snadge Thu, 09/27/2012 - 16:11
Hi
I love this simple mail add-on - brilliant having your email client right into firefox and best of all FILTERS!! which is great for a heavy forum user like myself who relies on email notification of replies...speaking of which I have a problem, emails from helpforums@sky.com seem to have a formatting issue that happens ONLY in Simple Mail- below is the text from an email

as you can see the line 'subject' with the link that takes you too the message itself on the forum now has TWO stops in it, e.g. helpforum..sky.com , this causes a "page not found error"
is it possible to issue a fix or workaround for this?
thanks

Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by TechnalXS on Fri, 09/28/2012 - 04:31hi,
I have read topics you posted on the forum Sky and it seems that the problem is not always present ...
"it doesnt always have these double stops, about 50% of the time it does - but given the fact this forum seems to have a few bugs i started to wonder if the source of the problem IS with the forum formatting? I mean it has two lines stating the subject in the same in the email...and its there where the problem lie"
anyway, could you send me the source code of this email ? (by mail or post here in plain text) OR BEST, forward me one of these buggy mails ?
Thanks
Regards

Here is code from an affected email, today i had an email from a different website that had the same problem but I cant find it nor remember which site it was as I was in a hurry..this source was identical in WLM except for the double-stop.
how di I get your email to forward one to you? - anyway you can see the double stop below in the 2nd subject line, when i view the source of the email on WLM this is not there?

There is an issue with Firefox and Annie (Super User) =
posted a fix on here a few weeks back. You need to use Adblock Plus and cre=

just a question : do you use AVG Email scanner ?

Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by snadge on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 10:10Hi
No I dont, but I do use Private Firewall v7.0.28.1 - I dont have any Anti-Virus running (I do have Avast Free installed but completely disabled - I run it when installing stuff)
Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by TechnalXS on Wed, 10/03/2012 - 06:35Ok i've found this :
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2821.txt
"RFC 2821 - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - 4.5.2 Transparency
Before sending a line of mail text, the SMTP client checks the
first character of the line. If it is a period, one additional
period is inserted at the beginning of the line.
."
So if you watch these 3 lines in your mail :
09=09=09=09=09=09
Subscription to Topic: Bug in Forum code with Firefox & IE..? (1 Update)
you can see the formatting has crossed the line at the word "sky" before. "com", so the next line starting with "y.com" the link works
by cons, at these two lines :
"Subject: helpforum
..sky.com/t5/Forum-Suggestions-Box/Bug-in-Forum-code-with-Firefox-amp-IE/m-p"
the cut is made just before the "." and therefore according to RFC 2821, a dot is added to the beginning of the line breaking the link.
So, yes, this is due to SimpleMail but in accordance with the standard...
But on the other hand if the mail server does not cut the line before the "." there is no problem (this is why some mails are no problems along the length of text and therefore where the mail server cut the line)

Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by snadge on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 19:13Hi
thing is its fine in other email clients like Pop Peeper, Thunderbird. Windows Live Mail (program) etc - why is this? surely they are following protocol too?
why would one additional period be added? it just doesnt make sense too me and it works fine in other clients so something aint right with Simple mail by sounds of it - I think 'possibly' the other clients can recognize its broken the link and then they fix it by removing the period.
is there anything I can request at sky forums for them to do to try and resolve it?
thanks again for your help
Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email

continued... ive checked on Windows Live Mail and the source on same line on another affected email show the text with one period...not two

one of the best thing to do is to transfer me to one of these faulty emails so that I can make some test. (technalxs@gmail.com)
Maybe there is actually a bug in the formatting mails on receipt

Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by snadge on Mon, 10/22/2012 - 19:35OK...
I sent it a few days ago...have you got it yet?
A few things I need to point out:
1) I seem to have to keep renewing my password on this website each time i want too log in? it never works the 2nd time around??
2) I used the reset password link a few days ago but never received any email, just done it again now and it worked.
3) I have noticed a new problem with the email add-on
- A) emails from eBuyer and Scan etc are not displaying correctly or in full, some images are missing and its displayed funny
- B) firefox spellchecker seems to work incorrectly in Simple Mail too, for example, earlier it under-lined the word music, when I right click and chose the correct spelling (exact same word) it adds another M to the start of the word turning it into mmusic , i seen this happen with a few other words..
thanks
Re: BUG: incorrect formatting of email
Submitted by snadge on Mon, 10/29/2012 - 16:51..........would also like to add to my comments above that I have installed Windows 8 Pro and Simple Mail throws up a pop connection error? I am using the exact same settings as before, no security or firewall is blocking it?
pop.live.com:995,ssl - connection failed
