The toolbar simple mail icons keep flashing for some reason, even there is no new nor unread message. Anyone knows why?

Submitted by nonhocapito on Fri, 10/24/2008 - 14:51didi you happen to install goggledesktop recently? I have the same problem, icon keep flashing when sending (but it sends, it only fails to acknowledge it did) and (possibly) it started after I installed googledesktop...
or is it something else?

ever since update.....have re installed old version and works fine
for a while until it updates then same bug again
would like to continue using but everytime problem i loose contacts and sent mail........ too much
to developer: Thanks for all your time...awesome plugin. Wish it worked with the new update!!!

You'd think after all the glitches all the software companies of the world would have figured out how to make it easier for people to report faults so they can fix them. Sure there can be a million fixes, but only one has to work. It's a process.
Until then I guess 'squeeky wheel getting the grease' gizmo will have to do.

I have the problem since 12/3/2008. I reinstalled FireFox 3.0.4 and installed the Simple Mail AddOn into a fresh profile to no avail. I did a Wireshark Network trace and from what I can see Simple Mail does build successfully a secured TLS channel, exchanges some data. And suddenly communication stops.
I suspect a problem with a specific mail in my inbox. So I went to my providers web-interface and deleted all mails 1 Week before the 12/3/2008. But nothing changed. I also switched to SSL only, still the Simple Mail icon keeps flashing.
So may be some trace-version would be an idea...

having traced the POP3 commuication i saw that Simple Mail tries to RETRieve a mail with the id "jqs@sun.com". It gets an "invalid ID" error for that from the POP3 server and thereafter waits forever for more data. That address "jqs@sun.com" is related to the "Java Quick Start" extension. I disabled this extension and restarted the browser. Simple Mail started by retrieving all mails in my account, and works fine again now.
So may be you also got the same problem. For now, I recommend to disable the "Java Quick Start" extension.

Then, simplemail started having problem retrieving messages from both my 2 accounts.
The solution is to disable the Java extension!
