Problem with Fast Dial using Firefox on Portable Apps through a Flash Drive

Hi,
I had Fast Dial working great and this site has been very helpful with the logos, forums and FAQ. So thanks for that. As the subject mentions I have installed Fast Dial in Firefox 3.0 Portable Edition though PortableApps on my Flash Drive.
Everything was working fine but now my home page is completely blank, it's just a white screen of nothing. I think this happened because I hit clear my private data? Also the themes I had installed no longer work as in even though they are installed and I choose a theme it doesn't take effect. The only other thing I changed was in Advanced under Network tab under Offline Storage I changed the "Use up to X MB of space for the cache under offline storage" From 50 to 10 but after Fast Dial stopped working I changed it back to 50.
I also tried disabling and enabling Fast Dial and restarting Firefox. Didn't help so now my home page is utterly blank, fast dial doesn't load and my themes don't load either. So...Help? :(

but it may be because when you cleared your data, it cleared the option for displaying fast dial in new tabs..
check your fast dial preferences to make sure "Show Fast Dial in new tabs" is checked..
UPDATE: do you know whether or not firefox portable deletes the user profile when u close it (to save space)?
if it does, then FD settings get deleted (and so all other extensions)

It is working fine now from my laptop at home but it didn't work from my office computer and that might be because they are not configured properly or the networks and servers we use might be messing it up but as long it works at home that is fine. Sorry about the confusion. So at least now I know clearing my private data does not mess up FD settings.

So now i'm on yet another computer (this time another laptop). Basically as you know I am running FastDial off of my USB using Firefox Portable through PortableApps. I originally did all this on a different laptop. I tried using it at work and my home page (about:blank) was blank, Fast Dial would not load. I assumed (incorrectly) that it was due to my work computers restrictions or network or some such thing. Now i am on a third computer which will probably be my permanent laptop and same as at work the home page is blank instead of running Fast Dial. So what is the problem? I have no clue.
I will keep thinking and trying to figure out what the problem is but I figured you would have a much better idea.

how about the computer u use at work?
i have heard that portable firefox is capable of using the profile of the firefox which is already installed on the pc..
which can cause a few issues.

also - make sure that "Show FD in new Tabs" is checked in the Preferences..
this is a common mistake users make, forgetting to check this option..

Submitted by Yaswanth on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 21:36No this laptop did not have an installation of firefox. I just installed it. Should I have an installation on the laptop itself or not? The one I use at work has an installation of firefox.
Also how do I change Preferences or do anything when Fast Dial won't load on my home page? Whenever I go to Add-ons in my Firefox Portable and click on Fast Dial and Options it freezes the add-on window every time. This is frustrating. I just found this program and now it won't work haha.
Is there a file related to Fast Dial that I might need on this laptop from the original laptop? I mean there shouldn't be, but is that possible?

Haha I'm glad you are willing to go so far to help someone. It seems like I don't need the help anymore but maybe it won't be a bad idea for you to go ahead and experiment with Fast Dial on Firefox Portable and Portable Apps I'm sure there will be users with future issues regarding that.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into this. If anything else crazy happens or it just stops working I'll keep you updated.
That subject line max of 64 character error is annoying haha. I forget every time. It shouldn't have let me use a subject line of greater than 64 character in the first place.
By the way do you know when you will start making logos again? (Yes, I know totally selfish of me) Lol :)

your firefox portable version
your fast dial version
i have firefox 3 on my pc, so i will test here first.
then i will load up my XP virtual image, and test it with firefox 2 installed
then i will test it again in the virtual with no firefox installed at all (and i will remove my profile)
i am doing this because i know there are many users out there using firefox portable - so it would be good to have FD work there..
Me and Logos - currently me and chiaroscuro are actually creating documentation for FD. and i am also working on a new frontpage for this site..so i am a bit busy..
but, dont worry, i will continue making logos once i am done, or almost done, with the above things..
although i will do a few in my free time...

Firefox Portable Version is 3.0.0 but the version installed on the computer is 3.0.1 so when i go to help on firefox from the portable version it picks up the version as 3.0.1
