Having a problem with Fast Dial + ColorfulTabs.
Fast Dial doesn't load in new tab.
To recreate the problem:
1) Install ColorfulTabs
2) Restart Firefox (version 12)
3) verify if ColorfulTabs works
4) Install Fast Dial
5) Restart
6) Verify that Fast Dial works, BUT it will work this time
7) Close Firefox
8) Open Firefox
9) Load any web page
10) open New Tab
11) Fast dial doens't load in new tab.
-----------------
Optional
12) uninstall Fast Dial
13) Repeat steps 3 to 10, same things happens again.
I tried this on my Laptop and Desktop, both Windows 7.

Re: Fast Dial not opening in new Tab (with colorful tabs)
Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sun, 05/13/2012 - 17:42Many thanks for the detailed feedback
These problems are appearing perhaps because Firefox has changed the about:blank page behaviour in Firefox.
Fast Dial 4.2.1 was modified to have Fast Dial appear in the the now modified about:blank page.
Maybe now different Firefox Extensions do not work so easily together now in this new Firefox about:blank environment.
This will need further research to clarify the cause of these issues
My guess is if you look in about:config that will see that your other extension is mofifying the about:blank setting in Firefox.
Please try disabling your othere extension and running Fast Dial, I think you will find that Fast Dial will run OK.
If other extensions are modifying the new Firefox about:blank settings, yes then Fast Dial will of course be effected.
Kind regards

*Update*
I found out the problem happens with Fast Dial + ColorfulTabs + Tab Mix Plus.
If you disable any of those two, Fast Dial loads 100% of the time.
I found out that in a clean FF profile, the problem is very random, I couldn't replicate the problem 100%, sometimes the new tab loads Fast Dial, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time it does load. Maybe it depends of what addon Firefox loads first (or last)...?
I found a the best solution so far here: http://userlogos.org/node/4958
I'll update if I found something else about this.

Most interesting
I will post a relevent link in a minute about the relationship with Tab Mix Plus
There should be no conflict with Fast Dial.
In fact you should be able to alter settings in TMP to make Fast Dial work.

I made all kind changes in tab mix plus and still, Fast Dial doesn't load, but remember, the problem lies in the combination of TMP and ColorfulTabs, apparently, Fast Dial is not the culprit here.
I'll repeat on behalf of other user with the same problem, best solution so far is adding chrome://fastdial/content/fastdial.html to the Tab Mix Plus Settings.
1) Open TMP options
2) Click on "Events"
3) Go to the tab called "New Tabs"
4) On "Load on new tabs:" chose "New Tab Page"
5) On the Address space type: chrome://fastdial/content/fastdial.html
6) Click the Apply button.
7) Restart Firefox
I hope this helps others until Firefox fix the about:blank mess.
Thank you chiaroscuro for your time. :)

Normally if you add about:blank for "load on new tabs" in tab mix plus then fast dial should work.

It has occurred to me that when Ef returns maybe he could fix you up with a modified Version of Fast Dial which you could perhaps beta test for us.
It would be interesting to see if we can come up with a version which addresses this problem
so Ef instead of:
pref("browser.newtab.url", "about:blank");
set instead to
pref("browser.newtab.url", "chrome://fastdial/content/fastdial.html");
It will be interesting to see if that effects the Preferences Toggle for open fast dial in New Tab (or not)

When I first made a fix for the new tab page in Firefox I put the chrome url in for the preferences. The problem with having the chrome url in as default was that you couldn't change back and forth of having Fast Dial open in a new tab page in the settings dialog. With the about:blank setting, you could control it with the Fast Dial settings. Version 4.2 was the one with the chrome url, and version 4.2.1 was the one that worked with the fast dial settings. If you're interested here's version 4.2: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fast-dial-5721/versions/4.2

Thanks for the feedback
But if I remember correctly in 4.2 Firefox New Tab Feature was disabled, or am I mistaken ?

Submitted by Efreak15 on Mon, 05/14/2012 - 09:30Yes, but in 4.2.1 it's disabled too, but the user has an option to use a blank tab by unchecking "Show in new tab".

Sure
I was referring to:
pref("browser.newtabpage.enabled", false);
not that this will necessarily effect anonyuser, but it would be interesting to test without, don't you think..
