Different response in XP and Vista

aikeaguinea —Sat, 01/17/2009 - 08:58

I have installed 2.22b on both my computers (XP SP3 desktop and Vista Home Premium laptop)
Both have Fast Dial configured in exactly the same way.

On the XP machine it works the way it has always done in previous versions in that when I click on a Fast Dial cell it opens in a new window. If I wish to open in a new tab I can right click on the cell and access the Firefox/open in new tab option.

On the Vista machine however clicking on a Fast Dial cell always opens in a new tab and it would appear to make no difference whether the "show Fast Dial in new tab" is ticked or not under the preferences/general settings.
OK - so I can open in a new window by right clicking on the cell and accessing the Firefox/open in new window option but is there any way of making the open in new window the default action on the Vista machine?

Not able to check as I neither have XP or Vista.

But there are a number of Vista users, and I hope one of them responds to your post.

Many thanks

The only thing that I can add is that previous versions of Fast Dial (up to 2.11) responded the exact same way in both XP and Vista so the fact that there are now different responses across the two OS's must be down to something within 2.22b - but I fully appreciate that if you do not have Vista then you will not be able to replicate what is happening.

First, "Show Fast Dial in new tabs" option means the Fast Dial page itself is shown when you press Ctrl+T and a new tab opens. This option has no relation to Fast Dial links.
Second, there's an option "Open in:" with a list of empty/new tab/backgrount tab values. Use this option to specify how Fast Dial links should be opened. In version 22b there's no option to open links in a new window, only in a tab. Why would you ever want to open links in a separate window?

The "open in" function was exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks for pointing it out.
I now have both OS's responding in exactly the same way.

@telega

Thanks for the clarification on this.
Had always set both settings to new tab without really understanding the difference.

@akeaguinea

I now have both OS's responding in exactly the same way.
