Can't set background image in fast dial 2.22b and other issues...

I just updated from fast dial 2.9 to 2.22b and I can't get my backgrounds images to show up. I noticed that this new version is using .png files rather than .jpg so I tried reformatting my images in Photoshop, but it still doesn't work. I like this program for its visual appeal, but I must say between this latest issue with the background image, not being able to use my old themes since upgrading from 2.9, and never knowing what bookmarks are going to show up the next time I start Firefox (I really don't need three thumbnails devoted to amazon.com) is getting very frustrating. Disregarding the stability issues of this program it is the best of its kind, but I am starting to be very tempted to switch to another more reliable program like speed dial despite its inferior visual quality. I am using Firefox 3.0.5 and I also have Foxmarks installed (if that is relevant). any help is appreciated

Please could you help clarify.
Are you referring to the Fast Dial page background.
Are you saying that you are unable to load and save a page background at all, or that you have not inherited the background from your previous Fast Dial 2.9 set up ?

There is not necessary.
Will work fine with .jpg files

While trying to troubleshoot this problem it might be helpful to temporarily disable Foxmarks
Do you have a Fast Dial profile on your second computer ?

I believe I have already figured out the problem though. While I have not tested this thoroughly it seems that if there is a space in the title of the image that it will not be able to load (although it could be if there is a number in the title too). All I know is everything seems to work fine as long as I use images with one word titles that contain no numbers.

I confirm the bug: background images with spaces in names can't be assigned.

This looks like you have the same issue as some other people who restored their bookmarks from backup. Fast Dial in latest versions stores its root folder id in a preference called "extensions.fastdial.root". When FD 2.22b starts displaying arbitrary thumbnails this means that this preference is not in sync with your bookmarks and points to a bookmark that is not a folder. I'm already aware of this problem and added an additional check for this in the next FD version. To solve your problem now, you can open browser Bookmarks menu, find "Fast Dial" subfolder there, right-click it and select "Fast Dial > Make home" from the context menu.
