Folders2: Main Directory & Request Blog

Folders2 is an updated folder icon set, working off my first set which you can find here. Below are the images and links to the new folder set; if you need a folder that seems missing from either set, feel free to post a response to this post with what you need and I'll add one for you. - euphonic
Edit: All images have a transparent background and are of proper size ratio. Thanks for pointing out possible confusion, chiaroscuro.

Re: Folders2: Main Directory & Request Blog
Submitted by euphonicnight on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 16:38I use a folder icon I modified severely (adding transparency on the corner, etc) and then add icons to the lower right using readily available icons. After some editing (making the icons glow, resizing, positioning, etc), I do some last minute finalizing effects and that's it. So they are made by me. Is that what you meant?
Note: All the images I use are free to use and edit under creative commons.

Submitted by euphonicnight on Sun, 12/14/2008 - 22:57A tad late since I added the image a while back, but I added a folder icon of the "open source" logo. Hope this works (it's surprisingly difficult to find generic logos for these things).

Thanks for the hard work.

Submitted by Mailer (not verified) on Tue, 01/20/2009 - 15:48— President Obama has committed to making his administration the most open and transparent in history, and WhiteHouse.gov will play a major role in delivering on that promise. The President's executive orders and proclamations will be published for everyone to review, and that's just the beginning of our efforts to provide a window for all Americans into the business of the government. You can also learn about some of the senior leadership in the new administration and about the President's policy priorities.
Re: Folders2: Main Directory & Request Blog
Submitted by traesch on Thu, 01/22/2009 - 08:05Does anybody have an idea of making a folder designed like those above with an icon for software or web development?
Maybe an icon with a bulb or with a cogwheel or something like that could be nice. But actually I'm not sure if this really hits the mark of development... I propably can imagine that a jigsaw piece would also fit a bit (like it's standing for a software module). But with these icons I'm not perfectly satisfied I think....
Here are some icon examples (found by web search) of what I am thinking:
http://neart.pl/assets/images/home/development_icon.png
http://www.umip.com/images/ip_icon.jpg
http://www.umip.com/images/development_icon.jpg
http://www.aspedia.net/uploaded/buttons/Computer_tower_icon.jpg
http://amulya.biz/images/icon_multimedia.jpg
I think the "concept" of the last one gets close to hit the bull's eye (at least for web development and web design).
So, are there any other ideas?
Oh, I just found that cube... This is also a good idea, what do you think? http://www.352media.com/fw/leftNav/iconWebDev.gif
Could anybody of you please design a nice looking folder with an icon which is a synonym of development? You will be my hero. ;)
Up to now I don't use folders within FastDial. That folder icon could change my mind.... =)

Re: Folders2: Main Directory & Request Blog
Submitted by Ladysimular on Wed, 02/11/2009 - 04:32Thank you for putting this and the other icon set(s) into zip files.
I have some questions and suggestions about the first Folders set, Folders 2, and generally both which I will post in some attempt-at-logic order here. They may look long...well, ok, the sentences are long, but they are pretty simple things that could help me out and spiff up your already spiffy work.
FD Folders:
Folders2:
You have a note above the instructions for downloading the Folders2 zip file as follows:
"Please Note: This is not a theme but rather all the logos included in my FD Folders logo set, including all variations. You can download them individually from the link below."
WHU? It would reduce confusion for some if you changed all the "logo" words to the word "icon", along with anywhere else it is appropriate, just to make all of the posts consistent.
#1 rule for all things computer: Consistent = GOOD Inconsistent = BAD
Plus, I am not sure I understand what you mean by, "including all variations". What variations?
General Stuff:
Is there some way that you could indicate which folders are not included in the zip files, ie the icons posted by others and your own uploads posted after the zip file was created, please? I think the easiest way to do this for everyone would be to separate any new uploads not included in the original zip file, like you have with the icons posted by others, and then create a zip file for them in the same posting. This would also help anyone using an all-in-one program like Down-Them-All or FlashGot see which ones to collect and save time and space used re-downloading unnecessarily.
Finally, as anal retentive as this may seem, I recommend you put a short note in your Folders1 instructions requesting people add notes, questions, suggestions, whatever for both icon collections in this blog, rather then the first one. I know you have it in the title and comments here, but that is just subtle enough that you may have some undesirable situations arise over it. I know this may seem like over-kill, but I have seen arguments come up over less. This is true for all of these suggestions. I'm just sayin'....ALWAYS remember rule #1!
One more thing: THANK you for pointing me towards the Infinite Computer! That will ROCK (HAHAHAHAHAHA...oh..sorry -.- ) my Rocket Scientist (Really!) spouses world! BRILLIANT!!!
Once again, I want to thank you for all this great work you are so graciously sharing with us! It is really good work and I can think of about 20 other applications for them.
Great Work!

@ Ladysimular
There are two folder sets made by me -- Folders2 (the "." in the banner-thing is just for decoration) and FD Folders (this became the name after I realized I needed an image for the .zip pack). If there's any inconsistency on Folders2/Folders.2/Folders 2 it wasn't my intention, but I feel its still obviously the same pack. As for FD Folders, I made that pack without the idea of doing a second one, so I simply titled it the search-friendly "Folders, Folder," which is in no means the name of the pack but just me being as general as possible (though I've now changed the title to better sync with Folders2).
As for doing another .zip pack for FD Folders (now who's being nice and consistent!) with them all in the same folder, check! Just finished that...on a related note, check my most recent comment on that to explain why I can't advertise the .zip pack on the top of the FD Folders page as apposed to at the bottom. Also changed "logos" to "icons."
*Takes Deep Breath*
In regards to marking folders not included in the .zip folders, it seems like more work than simply keeping the .zip folders up-to-date. I'm still not sure how to handle folders others have made with the .zip packages, but considering that they're under a different section anyways I don't consider it much of a problem.
It actually doesn't matter where people post suggestions/comments/recommendations, Userlogos.org tells me whenever people post on anything I've made so I don't mind if people post comments other than here.
I'm glad your husband liked the xkcd comic (I actually have a signed print of it above this desk). I'm an Astrophysics major, so him and I are in somewhat similar fields.

Thanks for your concern about everything, I hoped I've fixed/addressed all of your suggestions and issues.
