Bookmarks out of control & multiplying

I'm using Fast Dial v2.1 in FF3 and am having a problem taming my bookmarks.
When I first started using FD2.1, I had a number of sites saved on the front page from when I was using the previous version. After looking at some tutorials on the FD site, I worked out what to do and wanted to change the structure/layout of my FD home page I created some home pages based on topics (eg Firefox, Tech Support, Favourites, etc) with the intention of adding bookmarks to those folders (via the FF Bookmarks menu) so that when I click on say,' Firefox' on my FD home page, all my firefox bookmarks are revealed in thumbnails on the next page.
I'm having a couple of problems, but the main one is that the bookmarks that were originally on my FD home page keep multiplying every time I restart FF and it doesn't seem to matter what I do when I organise them, I can't seem to get them to either remain deleted or stay where I move them to. This doesn't happen with any other bookmarks I have saved since using FD2.1 - just the ones I had from the previous version.
When I go into 'Organise Bookmarks', in my Fast Dial Folder in FF Bookmarks, I have 4 sub-folders which are repeated in sequence below each other 35 times (x4 = 140) folders. I can delete them now (again!) but next time I restart FF they will be back. As they insist on showing up in the same order, any new folders I create are saved after them so they never show up on my FD home page.
I have spent hours looking through the FD forum and FAQ's and have tried many of the suggestions I've seen like clearing the cache, etc but nothing so far has resulted in a permanent solution.
Any help with this frustrating problem would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I'm too non techie to follow this or even find anything with sqlite in the filename. Nor did I ever find a fastdial folder anywhere, let alone in Mozilla profile. I have, however, cured the problem in a most time consuming way. I deleted the fastdial bookmark folder then uninstalled fastdial. I reinstalled fastdial as the latest version and painstakingly recreated my fastdial bookmark folder.
Unfortunately I have a second computer with the same symptoms and though I'm not looking forward to the cure, the addon is still worth the hassle.

Please consider migrating your present good Fast Dial settings to your other computer.
Would you be happy to have exactly the same Bookmarks and Fast Dial settings on your second computer as you have on your present one ?
If you are then please let me know and I will post details of how you could go about this.

A tad frustrating.
I would appreciate the procedures.

Indeed I would
Good
I would appreciate the procedures.
Please read this first
Migrating your Fast Dial 2.x Profile
Using the procedures described in the above, carry out the following:
Computer 1 being your present machine.
1. Backup Bookmarks in Computer 1
2. Backup Bookmarks in Computer 2 (safety)
3. Delete all Bookmarks in Computer 2
4. Remove Fast Dial 2 from Computer 2
5. Restore Bookmarks backed up from Computer 1 into Computer 2
6. Install Fast Dial 2 into computer 2
I would restart generously just to make sure each process is being completed.
(It is quite probable that deleting bookmarks in Computer 2 may not be necessary, as a restore would probably wipe anyhow.)
If you are going for the latest Version of Fast Dial please download Version 2.7 from
here
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks. Of course I'm gonna be a tad paranoid about upgrading from here. (g) If it ain't broke don't fix it syndrome is alive and well here.
Thanks again

Submitted by bluedog on Fri, 09/12/2008 - 11:56I had a look for fastdial.sqlite before sending you a copy Telega and I noticed in the same directory that there were a number of LEGACY files. These files had the same number as the png files but from the date, looked like they might have been from FD1. So I copied the files to another location and deleted them. I restarted FF and checked FD, but the bookmarks were still there. I cleared them all, rebooted the computer and checked back. The LEGACY files are still deleted, but the bookmarks are still showing up on FD (and yes, they've continued to mulitply.
I haven't tried the fix that chiaroscuro posted yet and as I haven't been able to access the forum for the past few days, I wasn't aware that there had been further updates to FD. As others seem to have continued (or started) to have problems with bookmarks even with the updates, I've been reluctant to upgrade until the issue has been resolved.
Hope the fastdial.sqlite file has shed some light on things. Will wait to hear before upgrading and trying the fix.

Yes let's hope so.
