nothing happens. I can still find sent mails in Sent folder but they never arrive.

I do not understand what STARTTLS means and why does the port number for outgoing mails changes to 587.
Usually it is 25 or 2525.

STARTLS is use when the SMTP server need authentification and work on port 587 but can work on port 25 also

I need some details:
Which version of firefox you are using ?
Which version of Simple Mail.you are using ?
What is the address of your SMTP server ?

Hi,

I think one thing:
maybe if you're running Windows 7, the firewall blocks Firefox connections to port 25, 2525, 587, etc ...

Anyway I will test mail.ru this weekend.

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP SP3.
I can send e-mails using The Bat and POP Peeper (port 25) without problems.

Hi,

i've try this week-end with a Mail.ru account and it's work like a charm .... i don't understand what this can be ...
May be an incorrect configuration of settings for your server or a problem in the firefox profile?

I'm confused

try with a fresh install of Firefox, for example with a portable version ( so you don't loose your configuration on your original Firefox) : http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Hi,

thank you very much for your efforts. I found out what was the problem - the name of my computer was written in russian (cyrillic letters). I just needed to change it to english.

Now sending e-mails works fine.
