Safari 4
Blitz Sat, 04/24/2010 - 17:25
Hey all. I'm new to this site, so forgive me if what I'm asking is either impossible or simply has been done.
I would like to get a Fast Dial theme or whatever the correct term is that looks like that of Apple's Safari 4 browser.
For some reason I really like the style of Apple products and find their design is much more attractive than that of Windows.
So, can someone help me with this?
I have no experience with Fast Dial apart from simply installing it a few hours ago.
Thanks to anyone who can help, and please, if this is in the wrong place, etc. do tell me.

Safari 4
Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 17:35Are you saying that you want your fast dial page to look like this:
This is not a typical arrangement of Fast Dial cells, which are arranged in rectilinear grid form.
I have not considered how you could achieve this shape with Fast Dial.
For readability and general use the Fast DIal page works well.
Please try playing around with transparent logos, putting a background you like in Fast dial, in fact setting it up to your own specifications, and I think you will find that Fast Dial is really very customisable, and makes the safari page look somewhat dated ! :-)
Any questions please just ask...

Submitted by Blitz on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 20:11Yeah, that is the perfect look.
It's exactly what I was looking for.
I know FoxTab has such a feature, but there's a downside:
it's FoxTab, and it will. Not. Work.
It simply won't be my homepage, and that is why my two choices come down to Speed Dial and Fast Dial.
I know Speed Dial could never do this, and FD has a ton more features that could potentially get me exactly what I was hoping for.
However, I'm assuming that this idea has not been tried before with the addon?

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 20:25Yes it would seem that Foxtab does what you are after.
I can see no way of modifying fast dial to achieve this in the absence of the developer.
If you're really keen on this sort of style, maybe you should persevere with Foxtabs.
They seem to have a support page...
I wish I could be of more help, but this is beyond me.
Even if it were possible to change the shapes of the fast dial cells with css in Stylish, it would not be easy to compute such shapes easily.
Something tells me you would have liked Tab Effect
It was great in the old days when it used to work !!

Submitted by Blitz on Sun, 04/25/2010 - 06:13Thanks for your help. I think I might just stick with Fast Dial regardless. I toyed around with it a little, and I like it. So even if it doesn't look like that I imagine it will be fine. Even without the Safari 4 style as an option this addon surpasses FoxTab in every other way.

Good news :-)
Any queries don't hesitate to ask.

Submitted by ingalls on Sun, 04/25/2010 - 20:39The only way to make your Fast dial profile look like this is to customize every logo for each individual position. It could be done but i'm afraid you would be alone in it as logos created for that configuration could only be used in a certain block.

Ha
I had not thought of that.
Very labour intensive !
I just wonder though with css in Stylish one could not get something going.
That is change the shape of the cells
It should be possible perhaps but one would need to be a good mathemetician.
But userstyles is down. I was going to look for something...

I don't know if you can change the shape of images with css though.
It would be a really cool project if someone knew css. Anyone?
Cheers

Of course, you are right
Silly me...
You could change the cell shape but maybe not the image.
I wonder how this is done then.
The image must me moved/twisted in some way, like in three dimensions.
Interesting
