a very simple fix for a great enhancement :

put the focus on the search field, so we don't have to use the mouse to click on it before typing. This would be a great time-saver ...

Thanks for your post

This was in fact done.
There were complaints, so it was removed.

There are others like yourself wanting this back.

Good maybe to have this is an selectable option.
