No new thumbnails

In the past week I've changed a couple of my Fast Dial pages, and for those new sites, I get a broken image link rather than a thumbnail. One of the new pages is a sub-page of a site I used to have on Fast Dial for which the thumbnail worked with no issues.
Neither of the sites in question have a UserLogo and I really don't want to use a UserLogo for them anyway- I prefer a live thumbnail.
Why has this stopped working and how can I fix it? I'm using v 2.22b with Firefox 3.0.10. I think the problem might have started with the last Firefox update but I'm not sure.

Mmmm.....
OK.
This is not good.
What you have found out so far is that Fast Dial in a New Profile works fine.
This suggests that this is not a Fast Dial bug.
The fact that I cannot reproduce the problem supports this thesis
But something is borking things up for you real bad.
And we have not yet discovered what it is....

By the way, I went back to the second profile and deleted the searchplugins folder to see if that would resolve the problem- it did not.

My guess is that if you had the patience you could rebuild a working Profile with Fast Dial in a New Profile.
Backing up at each step with FEBE. (Full Profile) with say 20 previous timestamped Versions in the backup folder.
If there was some element from your previous Profile that is indeed corrupt, it seems important to avoid importing this corruption into the New Profile
At the moment it does not appear that this is simply an extension conflict, but we cannot be sure.
It would be most helpful if you could derive an error message from the original profile, or from any of the non working profiles. Did you make the change in about:config that is necessary to see the error console results ?
Re: No new thumbnails
Submitted by Lili (not verified) on Mon, 05/11/2009 - 16:35The original profile had the error console working as I had Nightly Tester Tools installed as an extension. However, the only errors showing were related to elements in a MSN Live page, and were nothing to do with Fast Dial. I did not install Nightly Tester Tools in the second profile as I was mainly using that extension to force install of incompatible add-ons and I thought it prudent not to do this until I was certain it was not the cause of the problem.
It's now past 9:30PM and I've spent the afternoon mainly focusing on this issue, at this point I am tired and frustrated enough to leave it until tomorrow, at which point I may start over from the beginning including, possibly, a completely fresh install of Firefox. But I don't have enough patience left to do this tonight.
It seems very strange that adding back search plugins created the problem but removing those plugins did not resolve it, nor did creating yet another new profile, and even odder that none of the thumbnails in the third profile would refresh at all.
The fact that nobody else has reported a similar problem makes me think that a complete uninstall and reinstall of Firefox may be my best bet, unless someone can come up with another solution before I resort to that.

Yes a break is a good idea
We can investigate the matter again tomorrow.

Might be worth hanging on to the corrupt Profiles, especially the first one, until you hear back from the developer
telega may show an interest in having a look at the file places.sqlite, where Bookmarks and the Fast Dial Folder information is stored.
Many thanks

I'm the developer, I don't see your address in the comment.
I'm not sure what files I need. Maybe search plugins only, could you send them to me to "telega gmail com"?
Re: No new thumbnails
Submitted by Lili (not verified) on Tue, 05/12/2009 - 06:24I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled from scratch. I installed all extensions from their original sources, then restored bookmarks. prefs, cookies, passwords, and permissions using FEBE, then restored extension preferences using OPIE. Thought this would be the safest way to get back where I was without replicating whatever was wrong with the old install.
So far everything appears to be working fine. Hope that continues.
I have saved my old profile folders in another area of my computer and will email you, telega.
BTW, today I'm needing to enter a CAPTCHA to comment here that was not there yesterday, and it's by far the most difficult CAPTCHA I've seen online- I had to re-post my last comment four times before I deciphered the CAPTCHA correctly, and this is my sixth try at posting this comment...
