Freezing and script problems
Razza Sat, 02/14/2009 - 20:35
Get this Warning when I try to open Fast Dial,
“A script on this page may be busy, or It may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.”
Script: chrome://fastdial/content/storage.js:71
Put simply I can't open Fast Dial, if I continue the script it freezes Firefox and if I stop the script it just leaves my page blank.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Mmmm
This sounds bad.
What Version are you running of Fast Dial ?
Did this happen after a Fast Dial update ?
---
Please try the following first
Here
This will make sure that you have the correct Home folder for Fast Dial
This is based on the supposition that you are maybe in the wrong Bookmarks Folder and for this reason the script is taking so long to run.
Please try first.
---
Hopefully the above will resolve your problem.
If not you could also try the following, but after you have tried the first recommendation above:
Run Firefox in Safe Mode.
Disable Fast Dial
Run Firefox in normal Mode
Make a Complete Profile backup with FEBE
(to a new location if you already have a good backup)
Then uninstall Fast Dial
Restart Firefox
Re-install Fast Dial
Restart Firefox
And see if that helps

Please let us know how you get on.

Many thanks
Re: Fast Dial crashing
Submitted by Skorda (not verified) on Mon, 04/20/2009 - 04:16Have the same problem.
Have tried what you said above. Doesn't work.
FastDial keeps on crashing.
Anything else I might do to fix it?

Would you be kind enough describe what you are experiencing in detail.
Also what Firefox Version, what Fast Dial Version and when you problem started.
Would you also be so kind as to load Fast Dial into a new Firefox profile with no other Extensions loaded and see if you contimue to experience the same problem.
Many thanks

Thank you for your post.
Can you please describe the nature of your problem in detail.
If you return to an earlier Version of Firefox does this improve matters ?
Did your problem occur after an upgrade to Firefox ?
Does the Fast Dial page load before the "freeze" or what ?
Many thanks

Submitted by Jeremy1024 (not verified) on Thu, 05/21/2009 - 21:33I just had this same thing happen out of nowhere. It was trying to load ALL of my bookmarks for some reason and freezing up. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling but it kept doing the same thing. I just started using ff beta4 a couple days ago so I thought maybe it was related to that. I can't think of any reason this would have happened or any changes I made before it started happening so there's not much I can add to help track down the bug. Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks for your feedback
It was trying to load ALL of my bookmarks for some reason and freezing up
I am not saying this is the cause.
But maybe your Fast Dial Folder is in the wrong Folder in Bookmarks.
Please try the following and see if that helps

Re: Freezing and script problems
Submitted by Jeremy1024 (not verified) on Fri, 05/22/2009 - 06:18Thanks chiaroscuro. I think it was too late for me to do that because I had already manually deleted the Fast Dial folder. When I was having the problems my first thought was that the folder got moved, but the folder still seemed to be in the correct place although there were no bookmarks in it.
So the Fast Dial folder still showed up in the Bookmarks Menu, but it didn't have the look of a folder exactly. It was almost grayed out or something. I'm not sure if that helps. My bookmarks, that normally were in the Fast Dial folder, had moved out into the Bookmarks Menu or Unsorted Bookmarks (I can't remember).
When I uninstalled/reinstalled Fast Dial before it didn't change anything. Now that I had deleted the Fast Dial folder and reinstalled it everything works. It came up with a blank page. I had kept all of those bookmarks so I just put them back in the Fast Dial folder and everything automatically went back to the correct spot on the Fast Dial tab.
So all is well that ends well. Thankfully I was able to uninstall that speed dial extension. After fast dial that one just seems clunky. Thanks again.
Jeremy

Submitted by EnterNauta (not verified) on Thu, 06/04/2009 - 20:10Hi,
I have experienced this issue too...
The problem here was a GMail shortcut in the Fast Dial Tab.
When I deleted it from Favorite > Fast Dial, it returns to work properly. So, you can add the GMail Shortcut again.
Don't ask me why this works, I just do this
I wrote (in portuguese)about Fast Dial scripts here.
