Firefox 3.5
Sastre Tue, 06/30/2009 - 15:45
Ok, today I tried to install the new fantastic firefox 3.5. I was very disappointed to find that most of my add-ons wouldn't work for it and there were no updates for them. FastDial isn't compatible with 3.5 either for some reason. It's weird. Any thoughts on this? :(

Re: Firefox 3.5
Submitted by gumanov on Tue, 06/30/2009 - 18:03Just upgraded to FF3.5 as well, and Fast Dial showed up as being "incompatible"..
All i did was modify the install.rdf file in the extension .xpi, and then just re-installed it...
I can host the modified .xpi file temporarily..
---------
NOTE: USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ONLY IF YOURE USING FD v2.23b1, I HAVE NOT TESTED ANY OTHER VERSIONS!
http://mafi0z.com/FD2.23b1-FF3.5.xpi
just save that file, and drag it right into a firefox window, and install it..
It will re-install your Fast Dial, but all your settings should be safe...except the background image..make sure you have a backup copy of that image..
You will have to go into FD settings and re-apply the background image, because it will get deleted when you re-install FD. (Since its stored in the FD folder..)

Any chance you could upload on to UL ?
@MShadows
You may find this of interest for upgrading older xpi Versions.

chrome://fastdial/content/fastdial.html?folder=819
that is if you are using all the latest updates for firefox and fast dial hope this helps it took me a long time to figure that one out myself.

Thanks for your useful feedback.
This may work for you, but not necessarily for another user.
However your solution is very useful to know about as it points to a certain sort of problem.

Submitted by matt mccluskey (not verified) on Thu, 07/02/2009 - 09:47Ok, I FINALLY got everything fixed. However, I had to start everything over from scratch since I didn't EXPORT/IMPORT my bookmarks. Kinda of a pain, but whatever.
One bug I did find, and maybe it could be fixed also, if you have a background image with spaces in the name of the file, the image will not show up.
Example: "My Background.jpg" - No image will show.
Change the file name to "My_Background.jpg" - It will show up.
Even if FastDial adds the "%20" in the name, it still won't read the file correctly.
I found this out on the previous versions of FD as well.
Thanks.

It is my impression that there is an automatic back up of bookmarks in Firefox.
If one goes Bookmarks/Organise Bookmarks/Restore one can see the different backups and their dates
see
Please try restoring your bookmarks from a previous backup. As Fast Dial is stored in Bookmarks you should get your Fast Dial Back
I would also recommend that you use FEBE for regular backups of the complete Firefox Profile.
Once you have set FEBE up, it only takes one click on the FEBE icon for FEBE to make a full Profile Backup to a location of your choice.
Thanks for the clear description of the space in the background file name bug.
This bug is known about and has been fixed.
Which Version of Fast Dial are you using ?
Many thanks
