Fast Dial disappearing revisited

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem but I do not use Norton (Bitdefender instead). After restarting my PC FD has vanished.

I move to AddOns and "Find Updates" .

After restarting FF (V3.6.2) FD is available again.

After reboot the cycle starts again.

I had no problems with FF 3.5.x or any other AddOn.
Help appreciated.

Mmmm sort of sounds as if your program is also deleting extensions.rdf

Is your virus software adding its own extension to Firefox.

Can you delete ?

Hello chiaroscuro,

that even happens if Antivirus is turned off completely. Moreover the configuration was not changed between FF 3.5.x and 3.6.x.
There is no Antivirus / Antiphishing module active in FF.

Start a new Firefox Profile

Load Fast Dial only

Test

see what happens...

I am running 2.23b1 in FF 3.6.2 fine...

What version of Fast dial are you running ?

Hello,
i have made a test with a complete new user account.
Same problem.
I am running FD 2.23b1.
After restart "Not compatible with Firefox 3.6.2".
I do a "Find Updates",
restart FF, there is the message at FD Add-On "A compatibility update was made" and FD is back again.

Do you mean new Firefox Profile ?

Please could you clarify between Firefox restart and computer restart.

Is it computer restart that is causing problems.

It is worth noting with Norton that the new Profile does not work because Norton force installs Extensions into the new Profile.
So that even though the user thinks it is an empty profile, it is not.

Please check your new Profile for new Plugins or Extensions that you did not put there !!
And delete.
And then recheck on computer reboot that they have not returned.

There seem to be a number of Bitdefender problems with Firefox.
I would suggest disabling this program and removing all toolbars and extensions and test again.

Have a look in Google for Bitdefender problems with Firefox, there are a number out there, and then report back.

Maybe you might come up with something...

I have created a complete new user account hence also a new FF profile. Bitdefender is only placing an Anti-Phishing plugin into FF, but this is disabled.
The problem occurs only after restarting the complete PC. Once FD is re-enabled as described above, you can close and restart FF and FD is working fine until next reboot of the PC (by the way it is Windows 7 64Bit).

If Fast Dial is disappearing then some force is possibly deleting extensions.rdf
Or that is what is I am concluding.

The problems with Norton only started with FF 3.6

I am running 2.23b1 in FF 3.6.2 with none of these problems.

This may be being caused by something else, but as the symptoms are very close to those of Norton, for the moment I think we must consider BitDefender the prime suspect... :-)

It would seem that bitdefender is quite capable of effecting firefoxl extensions.

Saw this: maybe worth a try.

Curiously, if I have Firefox find the updates, but do not restart Firefox, then reboot my system, Firefox will open with all extensions loaded.

I have deleted the Bitdefender plug-in completely and the problem is still existing.
On the other hand I can not guarantee that Bitdefender is the not root cause.

did you try

load fast dial
but do not restart to install..

close firefox
close windows

restart windows

worked for another user of bitdefender...
