Close Button

Tabbar is "always shown";
This addon replases "new tab".
1 Tab is opened(minimum)
It is very likely to hide close button in this case. It improves performance in case of the slow computer.
For ex. user dont understand what happens to his|her new tab & trying to close annoying unusual window. If computer is slow enough - this leads to lags.

Re: Close Button
Submitted by chiaroscuro on Fri, 04/24/2009 - 10:07Not too clear what the problem is here.
Please help clarify
The close tab button should not be effected by Fast Dial.
In Preferences one has the option to open Fast Dial in New Tab or open cell URLs in a new tab.
Many thanks

Submitted by What iz this (not verified) on Sat, 04/25/2009 - 06:14Now the close button in case of 1 tab is shown firstly happens closing fastdial_page and opening it again. It is not the best in performance.
Even simply nothing doing will be much better.

Are you referring to the fact that when one closes the last tab, then that returns one to Fast Dial.
Is it that that you do not like ?

Submitted by What iz this (not verified) on Sat, 04/25/2009 - 09:36I'm not satisfied by reloading the last tab.
It would be more logically right whether it would do nothing in spite of reloading.

Personally I find it most useful that closing the last open Tab returns to Fast Dial.
I suppose there are options
You could try deselecting Show Fast Dial in New Tabs in Preferences.
Which means that you would no longer get Fast Dial on closing the last Tab.
And/or you could change your Firefox Settings in Tools/Options/Tabs and hide the last Tab when there is only one left
I am not completely certain what you want to achieve, as I count very much on finding Fast Dial in the last Tab, but maybe by altering these settings you may find something more to your liking.
Many thanks

This is not right! FD should be in a new tab. It simoly sholdn't allow to close last page wether it is FDroot.

This is not right! FD should be in a new tab. It simply shouldn't allow to close last page whether it is FDroot.
Are you saying that if the Fast Dial Root is in the last Tab, that hitting the close button on the last Tab should then not then cause Firefox to reload the Fast Dial Root page, as this is unnecessary, and on a slow computer time consuming ?

If the last Tab is in the Fast Dial Root, this will be visible in the Last Tab name, so surely there is at that point no need to close the last Tab again ?

Yes I agree.
So it would seem that closing the last Tab if it is the Root is not possible anyway as the close button has gone... :-)
Please advise.
Many thanks

Exactly!
Idea: allow user to set the title for root tab, cuz lots of people doesn't know what the root means in computing even if they know English. Setting the name will allow user recognizing the last tab be the special title.

Some misunderstanding here.
The root folder in Fast Dial by default is called Fast Dial.
I have changed the name of my own root folder to Root, as I find it useful for my needs.
You can rename the Root Folder (Fast Dial) to what ever name you want, just change the name of the Fast Dial Folder in Bookmarks. (beware if you are using Foxmarks)
The new name will appear in your Tab when you are in the Root Folder of Fast Dial.
Please see here
Regarding

Exactly!
If you have opened Google in the same Tab as the Fast Dial Root and your computer is too slow to reload the Fast Dial page, nothing is stopping you using the back arrows in Firefox to return you to the Fast Dial Page.
For the majority of users returning to the Fast Dial Root when closing the last Tab is found to be most convenient.
For your interest in the Extension Tab Mix Plus there is the option to inhibit the closing of the last Tab.
Tab Mix Plus/Events/Tab Closing
If you have this option enabled TMP will in fact not allow you to return to Fast Dial on closing the last Tab as there will be no close button available !
Many thanks
