Search does not work

When I enter a term and hit the enter key nothing happens.
It does display a menu of installed search engines though but selecting any of them makes no difference, it just keeps displaying the fastdial icon.
Using FF 3.0.12, FD 2.23b1 on Win Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
As I recall it was working before updating FD to version 2.23b1

I think you will find that 2.22b and 2.23b1 may both encounter problems with places.sqlite getting corrupted when running in Firefox 3.5
Version 2.23b1 was simply an early Beta upgrade from 2.22b, and was never originally intended for release to the public.
I chose to release this Version because I find it a preferable Version to 2.22b, primarily as drag and drop to folders works,(unlike 2.22b) and I need that more that than I do search.
So not only would I have to revert to an earlier version of FD, but also of FF itself.
You could take that route if you choose. I did for a while. And then one day I just decided to persevere with the 3.5.1 route.
But I would have never taken such a route without regular backups with FEBE, as I had no wish to lose either my Firefox Profile or my Fast Dial.
That being said when I did lose Bookmarks, both Approach 1 and Approach 2 seemed to work just fine.
But I did have the extra security of the FEBE backup as well.
I continue to use Firefox 3.5.1.
Many thanks

I'm actually not having any problems with my bookmarks, unlike many other users. My only issue is the loss of the search function.
I'm running 3.5.1, and when I tried to install 2.22b I was told it was incompatible with 3.5.1, which is why I'm unhappy with this 'workaround'.
In any case, the (temporary, I hope) loss of the search functionality is not an enormous problem, and I can happily wait for its resolution, I merely wanted to add another voice to the issue.
