Found GRUB, in help.

Found this in help

Set the default boot entry for GRUB.

-h, --help
print this message and exit

-v, --version
print the version information and exit
--root-directory=DIR
Use the directory DIR instead of the root directory
ENTRY is a number or the special keyword `default'.

Mark

Can somebody please oblige and do this for me, Cheers. Thanks in advance Mark

GRUB is the bootloader.
There should be an option in there somewhere.

@jmarkybb

Can't find GRUB

I have played around a bit now with this Wubi Ubuntu.

At least on my system the computer Boots so far and then one is given the option to go into Windows or Ubuntu.

If you chose Ubuntu it then passes a 10 seconds countdown procedure with the option to hit ESC

Hit ESC and you are in GRUB.

Grub it seems, at that point, offers you a number of bootup choices.

As far as I can see all that you might be able to do by playing around with GRUB is maybe to shorten this countdown time of ten seconds.

If left to it's own devices GRUB selects Ubuntu as default and then you go on to Ubuntu.

So I am not sure that any work in Grub will improve your lot much with this Wubi set up.

I admire your courage. It must be a lot of work to start again in another OS.

Are you sure you would not like to remain with this Wubi system for a while, it is quite flexible.

Maybe in the end a setup different from the Wubi one may be preferable to you.

I find it a great OS, but there is a lot to learn, and a lot of work starting things all over again, and there are a number of Windows apps that I miss.

I wish you well in your work.

I found GRUB hiding in File System/Boot/Grub

I found this page on GRUB, but it is rather daunting.

@ Mafia_Pengiun

That is the GRUB that I found, but could not make nor tail of it.

@ Chiaroscuro

Thankyou for the very informative reply, I am going to give it a go as Default, having said that
I have not installed any software for any of my hardware yet, so I find myself to keep dropping in on Vista.

I am going to give it a go as Default

I get the impression that the Wubi install does not lend itself too well to the complete removal of Windows

see here

But I am no expert.

@ Chiaroscuro

from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=776703

user - Dylnuge

I don't know a ton about Wubi, but from what I do know, it operates using files in the Windows partition somehow.

If that is true, then unfortunatly there isn't a way to completly remove Windows.

However, you can do the following:

1. Delete all unneeded files from your Windows partition. This means cleaning everything, uninstalling unneeded programs, deleteing My Documents (or at least everything inside it), etc.

2. Defragment your drive so that pretty much everything lies at the front sector. Alternativly, you can purchase a software like PartitionMagic, which will do this when you resize the Windows partition.

3. Using GParted, resize the Windows partition so that all of the unused space is removed.

4. Add a partition in the unused space for Linux.

That will give you some extra space.

The other option is to back up your data, wipe your HDD, and then install Ubuntu over it.

Ideally I would love the last sentence.

How cool would that be?

To do that download the Ubuntu ISO.
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Follow the instructions, burn it to a disc, and install.
It will totally kill your Hard drive (or partition), so BACK UP FIRST!
(Oh, and Vista is ~16gb, Ubuntu is ~8gb.)

@Mafia_Penguin

I am going to do this, just weighing up what I am going to lose in way of Vista,

and what it does, i.e. what features will I lose getting rid of Vista,

I love Windows Media Centre,

I love Windows Media Player,

as far as I can think, thats all I will be losing,

and gaining a lot more by crossing over to Ubuntu.

@Chiaroscuro

thank you for your kind words,

its appreciated.
