Present situation
chiaroscuro Sun, 05/30/2010 - 14:35
As many of you have no doubt noticed, there has been a fair degree of disruption, one way or another, on Userlogos recently.
Efforts are being undertaken, at the moment , both to conserve the content of Userlogos, and to try to safeguard the future of the site.
You may also see a new Donate button on this page.
Fast Dial developer, and Userlogos founder telega has found that he is at the moment no longer able to support the site, so we are looking at ways of raising funds for the future hosting of Userlogos.
We are extremely grateful to telega for continuing so long to fund this site, even though he was not in optimum health.
All payments will go at the moment to gumanov
who will be taking on the future hosting/caretaking of Userlogos
Many thanks to all concerned

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sun, 05/30/2010 - 16:02Recent difficulties cannot really be attributed to the server.
What has been achieved by gumanov recently is to get back-end access to this site which we have not had before, which has allowed us for the first time recently to back up the site.
Also some overdue repairs to the site have been carried out, which somehow indirectly led to the problems experienced last weekend.
So you could say that some overdue spring cleaning has been going on !

I certainly hope the site is in business for a long time to come. You would not believe the amount of work I have put into my own Fast Dial pages, lol!! How much does it cost to run something like this? And are you planning to go into business like so many sites before you....Google, Mozilla, you know, 'little companies'!

which works out to be $117.40 a year, before tax (if applicable).

kind of weird though
http://userlogos.org/ points to the new server.. while
http://www.userlogos.org/ has not yet been updated to the new server..at least not on my PC
what about yours?

Are you SURE ?
For me
http://userlogos.org/
points to the OLD Userlogos server.
with the message on the page
This is the old userlogos.org server..
Please be patient while the records update to the new server. Thanks :)
Also with message:
Operating in off-line mode.
So a dead end
I suppose this is what one would expect with an admin login to the old userlogos (so a bluemarine log in)
and
http://www.userlogos.org/
points to the big message on the screen
Site off Line
UserLogos.org is down.
Transferring to different server... Thank you for your patience.
and well nothing happens at all....
so anther dead end
I suppose this is what one would expect from a non admin log in ?
So from a deco log in
I have never personally understood the relationship between these two addresses.
All I know is that any internal address on UL with www takes one to the default deco (which I don't use) so chucks me out of UL so I have to log in again.
And a link without the www works fine because it stays inside Bluemarine.
As I seem to remember you use Deco, this all gets sort of relative...
The link I have always used to access Userlogos was http://userlogos.org/
At the moment it takes one to a dead end.
My suggestion is that you post a very visible sticky on that dead end page with a link to this new site, to help people through this transition period.
Unless, and I realise it now, that page could only be accessed by admins, in which case posting a sticky is a waste of time :-)
It is most unclear to me how M-F got to the new site.
As M_F to my knowledge is also a bluemariner.
Unless there is yet another variable, like where you reside ??
This is getting somewhat complex.
Any thoughts/explanations ?
If the truth be said it beats me how anyone has managed to get themselves onto this new site at all !!!

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Fri, 06/11/2010 - 10:57an update
http://userlogos.org/
now does point to the new server !
Works just perfectly !!!!
Well done...
New domain name and all !
http://www.userlogos.org/
seems to work as well !!!
It seems the internet took some time to digest the changes.
Bravo !!
